Hi, i'm italian. There is racism also in other states, it's everywhere. There are intelligent people that aren't racist and other that are.

" I have heard and know italians can be racist" well explain this sentence, can you tell me news about racism happened in italy lately??? interesting! so you live in holland where the last local elections were won from the party of Gert Wilder, an extremist xenophobic racist, criticized for his extremism also by the United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon mmmh probably you should be worried about racism in your country, not in italy!

:) hi! italians aren't racist, maybe singular people are! stupid people are obviusly in every country but not in particulary in Italy... don't worry about.. u will not have problems!

What can I say? I'm italian and yes, some italian could be often racist: but usually, if they are racist, they are racist with people coming from North Africa or Romanian, 'cause they think they are coming to steal job. It's stupid, I know, but also racism is stupid. Don't worry about you: you are a kind of wasp girl for the racist people, coming in Italy to study and not to steal job. So, I think that your year will pass with no problem :) Just another thing: I usually don't ask about the behavior of an entire nation, 'cause this too could seem racist... I suppose that you can't speak in the name of the all irish people :)

Italians can be racists? In what way? With you? With someone else? Whereabout is this trend that anyone think that Italians are racists? Do you know the amount of immigrants we got here? Why should we be racists more than other countries? Why more than Holland? Or Ireland? What the HELL italians should be racists again another european when we guest tons of other ethincities which are totally allright here? Wierd enough that Italians are labelled to be racists when is the ethnicity who have to face more racism ever from EVERYBODY and every country on this world....LOL @Sara: Ferrara is a northern small provincial city, is not a good sample of all of Italy... @The original etc: There are TONS of black immigrants who live happily in Italy, two options: or you are just biased or just an hater....if Italy is against blacks try other European countries or the Greater Usa!!...For sure we are far more civilized than you and your own folks...

This is a common assumption, and sadly dear president Silvio isn't doing anything to help this stereotype. As an exchange student i didn't encounter any racism towards myself, but I did notice some segregation, not by law, but perhaps by culture. It seems that the immigrant population never truly becomes acknowledged as Italian unless they look the part. With that said i doubt you'll have any trouble and if anything Italians will just want to practice their English with you.

Italian are not racists as a "people" there are Italians that are individually racist, of course. Nowadays there is some worry regarding immigration from Islamic areas, Africa and Romania. As "traditional hate" towards the other there are still traces of Antisemitism (depicted as Antisionism), Germans (in the north) and British (UK) people. Put your half italian side and you will go well!

italians aren't so racist as some nations are so don't worry about that and as an other one said it we are racist only with africans and east-european people. have a nice trip in here! :)
