My friend is an Indian grad student in the US. She needs to travel to Italy for acad work Will she need a visa
She will be working with a Italian professor for about 2-3 months and then come back to the US. Would she need a visa and if yes, where should she apply for one? Is there an online way of getting things done?

What do you recommend, Los Angeles-London and then London to Florence. I'm on a tight budget and I would prefer May 29-June 29, around those days. I'm pretty flexible for those dates, I just have to be in Florence by June 3.

There are many foreign students studying here - some in Italian and others in classes provided in other languages. Italy has many fine universities. Many US schools have programs which include a year or a semester studying abroad. You don't have to have citizenship to reside here, but you do need a visa. Citizenship takes a long time. There's information on visas here - http://www.esteri.it/visti/home_eng.asp. You'll want to check into one of the Study Visas. The site provides information on what's required, links to application forms, and addresses of the Consulates.

How much does the People to People Student Ambassador's trip to Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy costs?

How much does the People to People Student Ambassador's trip to Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy costs?
I just got a letter to that trip today and I really want to go! I just want to know how much it costs...

1 :
i got one too! i was about to ask this question, i really want to know! i just looked, it's $6,499 plus $295 for delegate protection. ughh i can't go.
2 :
i went on a trip last year with people to people to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. it was the best time of my life! i met sooo many amazing kids and learned sooo much! it's not like school or anything, you pretty much go to a bunch of places and learn about the cultures. you may have a silly little quiz every now and then; but you can't fail. they also give you a high school credit once you have completed the program. also, you were sent that letter because you were either nominated by a teacher or a student in your school that has been on a trip with them the previous year. They don't send it out to everybody....even if you don't have the best grades. yes, it is expensive. most trips range from $4,500-$8,000 (most around the $6,500 area). although, you can pay by month (about $900 per month) or choose any other type of billing plan that you want. people to people also offers fundraising programs. i know a girl that was in my group who raised every single cent for her trip! also, EVERYTHING is included in the price. hotels, 3 meals a day, attractions, transportation, airline tickets, etc are all included. The only thing that you will need to bring money for are souvenirs. Misc. Info: -most trips last about 20 days (i think most trips to asia are about 14). -you go with a "delegation" which is made up of about 40 kids from your area as well as 4 "leaders" who are teachers from your area. -if you are in high school, you have a homestay...where you live with a family in the country that you are visiting for 2 or 3 days. -you have to go through a process in order to be accepted (3 letters of recommendation by teachers/adults and an interview) although, they accept pretty much everyone -you have monthly meetings with your delegation before you leave to get to meet the kids and leaders -IT WILL BE THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFEEEE! the letter you received is probably talking about a local information meeting. it probably says that you have to reserve a spot at the meeting. go on the website that they give you and reserve one! once you go to your information meeting you will learn pretty much everything about the program and meet your leaders. then you get all the application process info. don't worry about the application process because they accept pretty much everyone :] The only CONS that I can think about is the first day of your trip, you are awake for over 24 hours because you have a midnight flight and have to do stuff the entire day that ur flight arrives. Also, some kids didn't have the best homestay families and thought it was hard to communicate with them. Another con that i can think about is that you may not have the nicest leaders...on my trip i liked 3 of them but hated 1 guy. honestly, think about girl scouts when thinking about people to people. most people think its all about your trip....but really, the program starts wayyyy bfore the trip. for example, you will have monthly meetings to study/meet the people in your delegation and even have social events such as bowling! most of the kids that go on a people to people trip are really nice, smart (not genius smart...but usually honor students) and mature. you will meet such good friends!! Overall, you would NOT be wasting your time. You get a high school cedit, go to different countries, and make SOOO many amazing friendships! It really changed the way i saw the world and made me more independent.

Cheapest tickets to Italy from Hawaii. Student?

Cheapest tickets to Italy from Hawaii. Student?
I'm a college student in Hawaii and I'm trying to find the cheapest way to go to Italy. I would like to go in December/January. Anytime around there is fine. STAtravel isn't that cheap. Only $150 less than the other websites. Is it cheaper if I fly to the US first, so that I'm still within the US and maybe there's some discount that way? THEN when I'm closer, fly to Rome or something? Any ideas are appreciated.

I am going to give you the only piece of advice that was given to me for finding cheap travel deals, and it works to this day... Compare as many travel websites as you can as often as you can. Since you have a few months, start searching today and search the flights or hotels or whatever you need every week until the month before you are going. If anything is unusually cheaper, book it on that date. I would definitely recommend checking out the website BookMe. You can compare ALL the reputable travel sites from one location, and save tons of money. Good luck and check out the link below, and you will be all set.

I'm going to be an interchange student, should I go to France or Italy?

I'm going to be an interchange student, should I go to France or Italy?
I have the option of choosing either Italy or France and I can't make up my mind. Please help. I don't know what city it will be, they choose that randomly.
Studying Abroad - 5 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
The French are smelly and rude so id say Italy.
2 :
More details would have helped, such as which part of each country. It would be more meaningful to compare cities than countries. The weather will be warmer in the south of each country, than in the north. The food will be better in the south of France rather than the north of France. Rome has more history than Milan, but Milan is a great fashion centre which you might like. So, if you can, research the CITIES that are your options. Failing that, you could consider: The Italians have less of an attitude than the French The French language is more widespread, and therefore more widely useful, than Italian The French have a more-exciting history than the Italians The French put a load of nuclear power station near the Italian border OR Toss a coin and go with that! Either place will surely be fantastic. Have a ball!
3 :
Can you speak either language? I would choose the one whose language I spoke. If I spoke neither I would go to Italy. The French feel that everyone should speak their language and are sometimes rude to those who do not speak it. Italy also has an interesting history. The Romans ruled Europe.
4 :
I have lived in both countries. I have never ever experienced a French person being rude. Ever. They are unfailingly courteous and my experience was if I was struggling with their language, they would try to help me. It's dangerous to talk in stereotypes about any country. Both are beautiful. Both have an amazing culture. Both have friendly people and the occasional person who is not so friendly. It's right that France tends to be more formal in its culture, Italy is generally very relaxed. Here is the major difference, which I assume will be important if you're a student. France is much more expensive than Italy. Food, clothing, the cost of living generally. Of course large Italian cities like Rome and Milan are expensive, but still less expensive than France. I now live in Italy. I chose it because I love Italian culture and I love Italian people. Of all the countries I've lived in, I find Italy the easiest. I don't know of anyone who has moved here from another country and doesn't like it. So on balance, I would go for Italy. But whichever you go for, make the most of the experience. I first lived 'abroad' as an exchange student too, and it opened up a whole new world for me. Keep an open mind, take in as much of the culture as you can, and enjoy it!

How much should a student bring on a 11 day trip to France and Italy?

generally speaking it is good to have avail 100 dollars per day for your budget as a minimum. likely, depending on if you are a shopaholic or not, you will not spend this much. however, it is good to have it incase you find that certain something. and or if other things come up. I know I have been to: England France Luxumburg Germany Austria Belgum Japan Okinawa Mexico Hawaii (part of the us but still IT'S HAWAII) I have been 3/4 the way around the world and i'll tell you sometimes you find things you JUST CANT GET anywhere else. I've also been in the unfortunate position of not having enough for what i wanted and or what i needed. it can put a REAL damper on your trip. best bet is do the math for what you think you will NEED + what you think you will WANT then double it. 2(NEED + WANT)= minimum you should bring. for your trip i'd say 3-4k would be just about right if you can swing it. borrow money that you can pay back later if you have to it will be worth it. trust me. than if you find you didn't need as much as yo thought after all. then you have an advance on paying off the people you borrowed from. just a note france kind of sucks it's pretty and all but...not worth it. Japan on the other hand. THAT'S a trip if you ever get the chance go to Kyoto.
2 :
BRING AN ATM CARD!!!!!!!!!! Bringing dollars with you to Europe just increasing the chance of them getting stolen and of you getting jipped on the exchange rate (I just lived there for 4 months... the rate sucks.) Keep your card somewhere safe, get out like 80 euros (around $100) the first day and then just see how much you spend. I'm not saying carry the card on you at all times, but having it is a much better choice.
3 :
I assume that you are a high school student going on a class trip. If it IS a school trip, you'll be having meetings that will answer all of your questions. The teachers have done this before and know what is best to bring. In my opinion, "Jolly Roger" is way off base; 3-4K is way too much cash for anyone to be carrying, especially since tourists are targets for pick-pockets in all major European cities.
4 :
You can get lunch on the run in Italy for less than 5 Euros a day assuming you eat at a bar or place that offers panini (sandwiches) or pizza. Don't forget that you may get the munchies between lunch and dinner. Budget another 5-10 Euros for gelato or some other small snack. Assuming you don't plan on buying souveniers everyday, have 50 Euros on you to cover expenses outside of food. You do the math based on what you can afford.

in the US, a student must have a four year Bachelor degree and take the MCAT before they can apply to med schools. there is very little in the way of financial aid to international students from US schools. check out several US school web site to see what you would need. Try Ohio State Unviersity.

Programs in high school are usually thousands of dollars, as far as I know. If you wait until you're in college you can do exchanges for virtually nothing. I attended Uppsala Universitetet in Uppsala, Sweden for my junior year in college. I found Swedish to be ridiculously easy to learn since it is very similar to English; the pronunciation can be tough, though, as they have several speech sounds that English doesn't. Almost all classes are taught in English, and they use English-language textbooks (too expensive to translate every book into Swedish!). If you are accustomed to VERY cold, windy weather in the wintertime and really long winter nights (20hrs, on avg. in Uppsala), you'll get along fine. Late spring, summer, and fall are gorgeous. At midsummer (late June), the days are about 22hrs long. Swedes are probably the most reserved of all Europeans, so most people you'll hang with will likely be other foreign students. The Swedish government allows several weeks of vacation, both in winter and in summer. That means your winter break will be about 6 weeks. It's plenty of time to explore the rest of Europe and get some sunshine! Sweden is REALLY expensive, so be prepared.

In general, obtaining a student visa for studying in Italy is a surprisingly long, drawn-out, and cumbersome process as compared to getting visas for other countries. Italian authorities are relatively stringent in handing out visas. If you're planning on studying in Italy definitely get the visa process started quickly, because you really don't know how many delays there will be and how long it will take. If you need information on obtaining a student visa for Italy a good online resource is www.gullivergo.com. The site has helpful tips as to which Italian consulates you can contact in your area and which type of Visa you'll need to get. There are also discussion forums where you can talk to present and past study abroad students to find out how many courses are required for a student visa. With most study abroad programs there are temporary visas available. Good Luck!

Yes. Italy is one of the countries whose citizens are not required to obtain visa to visit Canada. You must, however, have your travel document to U.S. properly endorsed so you could return to U.S. without a glitch.

Yes, but easy access between USA and Canada will change by 2007. You should go sooner than later. You can see the falls from New York side since it lies between USA and Canada.

How much time can I spend in Italy, student visa issues?

How much time can I spend in Italy, student visa issues?
Next year I'm planning on studying in Florence with my colleges foreign exchange program, but I'm not very clear on when I'll be allowed back to Italy, or if I'll be allowed to go with the program at all. I normally spend my summers in Italy with my fiancé (who is an Italian citizen), but I stay within the basic Schengen Agreement tourist time (90 days). What I don't know is after I come back from spending those 90 days, will I be allowed to get a student visa to return first semester? It would still be withing the 180 day period, but since visa's allow you to stay longer, I'm not sure whether it would be allowed. Also if it was allowed, would the time compound? Would I have to wait even longer than 90 days to return again on regular tourist time? Oh and I'm a United States citizen.
Other - Italy - 1 Answers

The Student Visa is completely different to entering Italy under the Schengen visa waiver scheme. For one trip you will be a tourist, for the other a bona fide student and that is how Italian immigration will see it. The 90 days out of every 180 days only applies to entering Italy as a tourist. Once you enter on the student visa this will supercede the Schengen tourist visa. The length of your student visa depends on the amount of time you will be studying in Italy. Just fill in the student visa form from the Italian Embassy's website, and make sure you've provided all the requested information. The Embassy will then issue a visa allowing you to stay in Italy for the time it takes to complete your course. Once your study is finished, you should be able to re-enter Italy as a tourist. By the time you've finished your course, your original 180 will be up anyway.

You shouldn't need it, as both UK and Italy are members of the EU. I didn't understand what nationality you are, but if you are from outside the EU and you have a valid visa for living in the UK, that same visa allows you to come to Italy too. I suggest that you check this by asking your country's or Italy's Embassy in the UK. Enjoy our beautiful country!!

if you are there more than 90 days, yes
5 :
Depends on nationality contact the italian embassy in london and they will tell you or if you call a travel agent they have a guide book which covers all countries

You should defiantly to an exchange, it will be one of the best experiences of your life! I did an exchange to chile, so i speak spanish now, and whenever i read things in italian i can make out a few things, the languages have words that are quite similar, i also know a few chilean people who went to italy for and exchange and they were fluent in 2 months because the language was similar! So go for it! and good luck!

What is the best way to get from London to Italy (Florence) for a student?

What is the best way to get from London to Italy (Florence) for a student?
By plane? By train? Which airport? Thanks so much!

Plane; try ryanair or easyjet
2 :
when i was a student and wanted to travel to Europe, my budget was low. I always used coaches (don't laugh) instead of planes! its much cheaper and you get to sightsee many countries that come on the way. Not advisable if your on your own as it can get lonely for a long travel.... go to: www.eurolines.co.uk
3 :
It just so happens that I'm going to a wedding in Florence from London so I've recently researched this-:) By train it would take at least a whole day if not longer. By air it would take about 2 hours. www.meridiana.it is the only airline flying direct from London. Or you could go with Easyjet/BA to Pisa and then take a train to Florence.

Avoid Naples. Not a safe city been there. A city full of crime, traffic, dirt. Pick pocketing is a huge problems there. Naples is filthy. Keep well away from it. Place to go to are Florence, Tuscany, plus Siena. Rome is a very expensive city. To keep safe make sure you wear a money belt. That way you avoid pickpocketing in train stations etc. They tend to target foreigners in Italy. Best advice is use common sense when been there.

Anyone living in Southern Italy wanting to host a female exchange student from New Zealand?
I am currently living in a beautiful city called Pavia in Northern Italy, but I really want to experience the culture and immense beauty of southern Italy as well, the program that I am with won't let me unless I find my own host family. In just over 1 month I am due to change host family's so I am hoping to find one in the beautiful south before then :) Thanks. It doesn't necessarily have to be right down south either

Student living in Italy for a year - Fluency wanted, course options.?
I need a little help. I'm a UK resident, in my second last year of school and looking at my future. I want to live in Italy for one year, predominantly to learn the language. Can anyone suggest options for me? Where I can go, what can I do? I'm interested in Immersion programmes for the language, but I would like to mix with other students (preferably my age, which will be 18/19 at the time). I'm just lost. Thanks for any help.

The best thing you can do is to translate this question in Italian and post it on it.answers.yahoo.com, where many Italians will hurry to answer to you. I can just say two things: * There are students exchange programs both at high school level and at university level. Ask at your school in UK. * There is an Italian university that is specialized in enrolling foreign students, at Perugia: http://www.unistrapg.it/english/

Too much for what you get! It's not exactly a scam. It does put on a legitimate trip that's quite a bit of fun. However, it's not as exclusive as it makes itself out to be -- thousands of those "ambassador" letters go out every year. The trips are also horribly overpriced. You would be much better served taking that money and putting it toward a semester (or better yet, year) exchange program! It would benefit you so much more -- and for the rest of your life! You would learn a language, a culture and attend school in another country. Is P2P a fun trip, yes. But IMHO is it worth the money? No.

The decision of granting you the visa to visit Italy (rather schengen visa) is independent of ur stay in UK, as far as ur have 180 days visa remaining for UK in ur passport & you have sufficient funds in ur bank to prove that u can support urself while u r in Italy. So of course u are eligible for visa, only if visa officer is happy to grant you a visa. Good luck.

i guess it would depend on what studies you're planning to take and why you should go to either spain or italy. both are beautiful countries btw, so much life and culture in them but you have to ask yourself what academics course is best and what country has the best university that program can offer you. besides, if anything, barcelona to milan (or milan to barcelona) is only a train ride away! :) good luck

well just so you know, spanish isnt the official language of spain. its Castilian which is generally percieved as spanish. but since you know spanish, then go to italy cause learning italian is a heck of a lot easier with your background of spanish

I went when I was 19 and I did a semester in Oxford, England. I wanted to go through my university, but to go to Italy, France (or any country where English wasn't the main language), you had to be a junior or senior, and have 2 years of the language (college), unless you can prove that you are fluent, and you had to do an entire year. I could have stayed for a year, but it was expensive as hell. I wanted to go to Italy too. Any way, I didn't want to wait til I was a junior, so I started to check out community colleges. They offer semester programs and summer/winter shorter programs. When I went, the program was about 6 grand. But, I recently looked it up, and it was about 7,500. But, once I got there, I spent about 2 grand more. I went to Paris, Dublin, and Amsterdam. But, I can honestly say, it was the best time of my life, and the best money I've ever spent. I'd tell you more, but then this will turn into a 5 page essay, lol. You can hit me up. But, just to get started, look up you local community colleges. Each school offers different countries to study abroad in. Italy is a very popular study abroad location, so you should have no problem finding a program. They usually have the current year program online, so you can read it and get info. Also, some community colleges don't even require you to be a regular student at the school. You can go to the school specifically for the study abroad. Good luck.

Immunizations??? ;-) so funny! ;-) Anyway if you are not European you must have a visa to go there, you may ask the university you want to go for any international program, University in Italy is very cheap compare to the usa.

Becoming a foreign exchange student to Italy, IB program?

Becoming a foreign exchange student to Italy, IB program?
so I am interested in going to Italy for a semester either my 2nd semester junior year or 1st semester senior year. I am also signed up to be in the International Baccalaureate Program (aka. IB) This should be okay because it IS INTERNATIONAL! however my school guidance counselor/exchange student adviser hasnt done an exchange in 10 years and also never done one through IB. Any advise? I have to do a lot of the research myself it seems :/
Studying Abroad - 2 Answers

I'm in the same situation, except I'm going to Germany and for a year. You won't be able to do IB, because some classes require 2 years for one class, and you wouldn't able to continue your IB studies even if it's a one year class because they don't have IB schools overseas. I suggest you just take AP classes, and forget about IB if you plan to do foreign exchange. (:
2 :
Hi there. I'm doing IB too. You should be okay if its only for a semester. If you are going to another IB school, I'm sure you won't have too many problems. The only issue will be with your assessment - check when your majoy assessment would be taking place (Group 4 Project, EE, TOK, and various IAs). Aim to go away when there a none of these, or only one. You can't miss these. Try an contact some people from the school you would be attending to see what programmes they have, etc. Otherwise, the responsibility would be totally on you to make sure you are learning everything you need to. It is runs differently from AP, and is definitely a better curriculum - stick with it! Just ask around, do your research, and I'm sure you will find a way to do both. Good luck, and I'll see you at the other end!! Good luck on your application and exams!!

The daily life of a high school student living in Italy?

The daily life of a high school student living in Italy?
For an assignment... A specific city in Italy if you can, like what they do in that city for entertainment where they hang out or whatever... But MOST important please is their school schedule: How many days a week? Roughly what hours? Any lunch breaks? What types of classes and for how long in each class? Please help! Just any vague ideas are welcome! Thank you muchly :)

I live near Treviso (San donà di piave) there isn't much to do we mostly hang out in bars (there are really a lot), cinema or shopping center.. In summer all young people go to the beach wich is just 30 min by bus.. SCHOOL SCHEDULE: We go to school from monday to saturday (sunday is our only day off), I start at 8.10 (other schools at 8.15) at 11.00 we have a break of 15 minutes and we finish at 13.10. Two days a week we do an extra hour and so i finish at 14.00. Here doesn't exist lunch breaks all high schools finish no later than 14.00, only professionals schools (like to become cooks) can even have lunch and lessons in the afternoon. However in high schools it can happen that some classes return to school in afternoon to do 2 hours of gym. This year there were changes for the hours that had become longer (decided by the minister Gelmini) actually there will be a strike to protest against this tomorrow.. The first to hours are of 60 min, the third of 55 min and other of 50 min... I attend a language high school as languages we study eng, german and the third year you choose between french and spanish. We always stay in the same class room (the teachers move into the different classes) we move only go to the gym, the laboratory of chemical and physical or to the computer room. If you don't know high school here is 5 years long and there are different types, mainly are this: -languge school -liceo classico (i don't think there is a translation to this xD Mainly you study greek, latin and a lot of literature) -liceo scentifico (a lot of maths and science) For tests we do writtens plus orals... There around 25 students for classes, same even reach 30.. Oh god i don't know what else to write xDD Hope I helped :)

American/Irish student trying to work in Italy?

American/Irish student trying to work in Italy?
I am a dual US/Irish citizen who will be studying abroad in Italy. Unfortunately, I will not receive my EU passport until a month into my program due to the current back log in Dublin. If I have a copy of my foreign birth's registration certificate for Ireland, will I be able to legally work in Italy at the start of my program or will I need a passport? (ps. I will be in Siena, so if anyone has any job hunting tips there let me know please) Thanks!
Other - Europe - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It's unlikely that any company will accept proof of nationality as a birth certificate only There are many clauses with nationality such as renouncing it, and acquistion (or not) depending on the year of birth etc, and many more reasons which would mean that a birth certificate alone does not mean that the person concerned is really an EU national. Proof of nationality only comes from a passport or an official national ID card. Therefore if I were you, I would contact the Irish embassy and put your question to them in the hope that they will be able to help you, or even provide an official document (providing it is confirmed that you will be provided with the passport)
2 :
I am also Irish and lived in Italy for 5 years. For 4 and three quarters of those years I begged to get out of Italy but got stuck in a tax trap there. Irrespective of what you earn you will be expected to pay more than what you earn in taxes/health insurance and other stoppages.. And you WILL get ripped off, left unpaid for work you did legitimately, abused, ignored and belittled. It's not the place to work or even think about it. If you REALLY need to study there then enjoy your course, and then get the heck out of that hopelessly corrupt and broken country.
3 :
If you are here on a US passport with a student visa, you cannot legally work here until you have your Irish passport. A birth certificate is not adequate for the reasons that Bla Bla explained to you. Right now, the jobs market is very weak here in Italy. For the next week or so, many businesses are closed here for the Italian vacation period. When you get your visa, one thing you might look into is teaching English. Many towns here have language schools that are private businesses. They tend to hire young people on short term (& low paying) contracts. The teachers are almost always from the UK or Ireland because it's illegal to hire someone from the US, Canada, etc unless they have a valid work visa and then the process for applying for a work permit requires that there are no viable candidates from the EEA. Your Irish passport will give you an advantage. Do you speak Italian? Your possibilities will be limited if you do not. You might start checking sites like: http://www.jobrapido.it/?q=siena , http://www.lavoro.org/Toscana/Siena/ , http://www.kijiji.it/offerte-di-lavoro/annunci-siena/ There is a restaurant near the main square in Siena that I know had students working in the past, but I believe that was through some summer program run by a school. It's called L'Orto di Pece. If you go behind the tower to the Mercato area, you can look down into a valley. There's a garden there where the restaurant is. Go down the passagio to the left of the tower and then turn right and go down the stairs to get to the mercato. It can't hurt to ask.

UNC is a great school. My best friend goes there and it was one of the universities I was looking into. They have a lot of school pride, they're excellent academically, and there are many activities for international students. You probably won't be able to have a car, but you can always find friends with them or take buses or cabs. People are people so you'll find nice ones and some not so nice ones. Aaand America is a huge country so to say you'll have the "real american" experience is hard to say. It's a great college and shows college life well and because it's a popular school you'll meet more people from across the country and not just people from North Carolina (though that will probably be the majority) UNC is super close the the beach and only a few hours away from Myrtle Beach and other landmarks, you'll have a great time there I think. :)

Do we need a lawyer to help with a student visa to Italy?

Do we need a lawyer to help with a student visa to Italy?
My husband is applying to get a professional training visa for 1 or 2 years for study in Italy and I will be applying for a visa to accompany him. We have looked at the Italian consulate website and know about the forms and evidence that we need, but we were wondering if it is even possible to do this ourselves, or should we hire a lawyer? If so, how expensive are they? I'd love to hear from people who have done this with or without legal help who can give us some insight into the best way to handle this.

what I know, you don't need to hire a lawyer for your visa, you can get a travel agent to do errands for you, compared to lawyers TA is much cheaper, because you will only pay their service fee not professional fee.
2 :
no, I dont think so, look at this pdf, can be useful http://www.stranieriinitalia.it/news/guidaistruzione/inglese.pdf
3 :
I've applied for a student visa. My school offers a service where you assembly all of the materials and they submit the visa application and its accompanying materials for you. Perhaps your educational institution offers a similar program at the Study Abroad or Global Education office. You definitely don't need a lawyer. Think about all of the people who apply for and get visas to come to the United States--they didn't have lawyers! I actually applied on my own (without my school), despite that tangent that I went on about universities offering the service. I went to the consulate general in New York City and the only advice that I have for you is make sure that you have absolutely all of the application materials! Be anal about it because they have sent me among many others out of their office crying! So to that end, go in there with a thick skin. You can do this on your own, I have total confidence in you. I was 19 at the time (last summer), and I went in alone. Also, get there two hours before they're scheduled to open. If you're a student, I believe student visas are free. Check the website. I don't know how much they cost for non-students.

Just which race would they be showing bias toward? Irish isn't a race is it?
3 :
Hi, i'm italian. There is racism also in other states, it's everywhere. There are intelligent people that aren't racist and other that are.
4 :
" I have heard and know italians can be racist" well explain this sentence, can you tell me news about racism happened in italy lately??? interesting! so you live in holland where the last local elections were won from the party of Gert Wilder, an extremist xenophobic racist, criticized for his extremism also by the United Nations Secretary Ban Ki-moon mmmh probably you should be worried about racism in your country, not in italy!
5 :
:) hi! italians aren't racist, maybe singular people are! stupid people are obviusly in every country but not in particulary in Italy... don't worry about.. u will not have problems!
6 :
What can I say? I'm italian and yes, some italian could be often racist: but usually, if they are racist, they are racist with people coming from North Africa or Romanian, 'cause they think they are coming to steal job. It's stupid, I know, but also racism is stupid. Don't worry about you: you are a kind of wasp girl for the racist people, coming in Italy to study and not to steal job. So, I think that your year will pass with no problem :) Just another thing: I usually don't ask about the behavior of an entire nation, 'cause this too could seem racist... I suppose that you can't speak in the name of the all irish people :)
7 :
Italians can be racists? In what way? With you? With someone else? Whereabout is this trend that anyone think that Italians are racists? Do you know the amount of immigrants we got here? Why should we be racists more than other countries? Why more than Holland? Or Ireland? What the HELL italians should be racists again another european when we guest tons of other ethincities which are totally allright here? Wierd enough that Italians are labelled to be racists when is the ethnicity who have to face more racism ever from EVERYBODY and every country on this world....LOL @Sara: Ferrara is a northern small provincial city, is not a good sample of all of Italy... @The original etc: There are TONS of black immigrants who live happily in Italy, two options: or you are just biased or just an hater....if Italy is against blacks try other European countries or the Greater Usa!!...For sure we are far more civilized than you and your own folks...
8 :
This is a common assumption, and sadly dear president Silvio isn't doing anything to help this stereotype. As an exchange student i didn't encounter any racism towards myself, but I did notice some segregation, not by law, but perhaps by culture. It seems that the immigrant population never truly becomes acknowledged as Italian unless they look the part. With that said i doubt you'll have any trouble and if anything Italians will just want to practice their English with you.
9 :
Italian are not racists as a "people" there are Italians that are individually racist, of course. Nowadays there is some worry regarding immigration from Islamic areas, Africa and Romania. As "traditional hate" towards the other there are still traces of Antisemitism (depicted as Antisionism), Germans (in the north) and British (UK) people. Put your half italian side and you will go well!
10 :
italians aren't so racist as some nations are so don't worry about that and as an other one said it we are racist only with africans and east-european people. have a nice trip in here! :)

In some private and catholic schools they do wear uniforms. There are no dances like prom, but they do go dancing in clubs. Teenagers in Italy are like the teenagers in the US, not many differences there, besides the fact that there is no age restriction to drink alcohol in Italy.

No, they don't wear uniforms and don't have dances like prom. High School (scuola superiore) in Italy can be choosen... more or less there're these type of school: Liceo (that can be Scientifico, Classico, Linguistico, ecc; see more here http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liceo ), Istituto Tecnico (that can be Industraile, per il turismo, Commerciale, ecc. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istituto_tecnico) and Istituto Professionale (that has many addresses). http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scuola_secondaria_di_secondo_grado What do you mean with "What are teenagers like?"? Regilla and giugiu said nonsense

We don't have any uniform restriction in Italy. As regards prom, we don't have a proper one, but most part of institutes organize a party in some disco once or twice a year (at least, every school did when I was a student). We don't really need one, though, since there's no legal age to enter a club. You should consider that Italian liceum is way harder than American high school (my experience, I graduated in Kansas a few years ago). Nothing to be too concerned about, just keep that into account.
