Just curious cause I heard you can do that in France if you speak the language if you speak Italian shouldn't you be able to also? Is there a way for an american to gain citizenship there or be able to stay there for a long time in Sicily?

You should contact some students organization or something.

There are many foreign students studying here - some in Italian and others in classes provided in other languages. Italy has many fine universities. Many US schools have programs which include a year or a semester studying abroad. You don't have to have citizenship to reside here, but you do need a visa. Citizenship takes a long time. There's information on visas here - http://www.esteri.it/visti/home_eng.asp. You'll want to check into one of the Study Visas. The site provides information on what's required, links to application forms, and addresses of the Consulates.
