If you choose to study in towns where other students are, you can find a lot of people speaking English. However if you choose to travel down there to learn the language it might not be the smartest move. Sometime people learn best when there are no other options because humans are lazy by nature and will try to group with people like themselves rather than taking on the challenge and the risk of mixing with locals. We are warned by our local agencies about legal risks based on the on-going trial against an exchange student down there. I will wait until she is acquitted before considering this country as exchange student. Also I have learned that some have become in trouble in Italy just because they have not kept all the receipts for purchases done while they were studying down there. We are talking of 1,000 thousand of dollars in fine, if you miss saving just one receipt. Apparently the police can ask you at any time if you got receipts for your purchases.
